Guerrilla gardening
http://www.guerrillagardening.org/
Guerrilla gardening is an illegal but very nice activity whereby people decide to solve urban blight by removing trash and replacing it with plants.
It is illegal because in many cities there are local laws that prohibit a private party from planting trees, shrubs and flowers in a public area.
They come at night, remove trash, and plant trees, shrubs and flowers.
Thankyou to Herman for that link.

Crazy Comedy
One of the unexpected children of the internet's potential for mass communications has been the invention of a new form of comedy, called Flash Mobbing. The idea is to organise to amass a large group of people, give them instructions to do something extremely bizarre, then let them loose in busy public places for comedic purposes.
Some examples of these are:

Mass Pillow Fights. Times article here

Zombie Flash Mobs, where several hundred people dressed as Zombies all converge in a busy public area and walk around, pretending to be an outbreak of Zombies.

Subway parties get organised, where huge groups of people get together and go a little crazy.
One group who regularly organises such events in the US is Improv Everywhere. Here is one event they organised, involving getting 300 people to ride the New York subway at the same time, all over the city, without trousers or skirts.
Here are some examples of other pranks they have played:
Frozen Grand Central, where 207 people freeze in time on cue in New York's Grand Central Station. IE page here
Look Up More. Here 72 people each went to an empty window in a store and started performing actions in unison infront of hundreds of onlookers. IE page here
No Shirts, where 111 men went into an Abercombie and Fitch store, then all removed their shirts at the same time. IE page here
Slow Mo Depot, where a large group of people invaded a department store, walking around and shopping in slow motion. IE page here
The Youtube Channel has a large collection of all their videos. And here's a TimeOut article on them, for those who're interested.

In London's Victoria train station, 4000 people got together and all started dancing silently together, with their mp3 players - for two hours! Article here | ![]() |
