The Mayan Calendar

From my friend Mark Heley:

Tomorrow, January 17th 2008 is a very significant day in the Mayan long count calendar.

It is exactly 1800 days to the end of the cycle on the most commonly agreed correlation date of December 21st 2012.

This means that it is exactly 5 Tun (a cycle of 360 days) or one Holtun (5 tun).

The day sign is 11 Ahau or Sun. This is significant as the end of Tun and Katun cycles always fall on this day sign and the last day of a cycle is considered the name bearer after which the cycle is named. For example, we are now in the Katun 4 Ahau which is named after the last day of the cycle on 21.12.2012.

The Maya, as is recorded in the Books Of Chilam Balam, associated these days with particular prophecies.

Each Katun has its own energies according to the prophecies associated with these day signs.

We are now shifting into the last Holtun, which means we will be in the last quarter of the last tun of the whole long count- a cycle of 5200 Tun! I think it would be reasonable to say that the jaguar priests of the Chilam Balam would view this as being very significant indeed.

There is also a nice piece of mathmagic that appears in the day count, if we translate it into decimal numbers.

Tomorrow will be 1870200 days into the cycle.

The cycle completes at 1872000.

It will be interesting to observe how we experience this shift energetically.
What we can definitely say is that we are now living in the very end days of the great long count cycle.

The Countdown

So, if the Mayans are correct, as of today we have 5 years left.

Here's the countdown calendar
http://www.baktuncountdown.com/

The past 5 years of my life have whizzed by so fast that they coagulated into one big blur. Life really does pass you by at such a terrifying rate. It makes me realise how little I've done with this incredible gift and opportunity we call life over the past 5 years. Every day you awaken with the potential to do the most incredible things - to fulfill your dreams and change the world - and yet every night you go to bed after another repetitive day surfing the internet, wasting time and pacifying our senses.

Only 5 years left...

Timewave Zero

I've been going through a very deep and involving synchronicity cluster recently. And I've been talking to my friends around the world about this, and the same is happening with them - our synchronicities are synchronizing!

Precognitive dreams are becoming more common. And I find if a random person jumps into my thoughts for no reason, they will almost definitely ring me later that day. This is happening more and more to everyone right now.

What seems to be more intriguing is how events are repeating themselves in some sort of fractal synchronicity event echoing through the tunnel of time. It is difficult to force words upon such abstract concepts, but if you're experiencing this too I hope you will understand what I mean.

Time seems to be compacting.

As we age, a single day becomes a smaller portion of our lives. When we are 5 years old, one year is a magnificent proportion of time - one fifth of our entire lives. By the time we are 30, one year is only a thirtieth of our life, so perhaps this explains why time seems to be speeding up. But perhaps it doesn't.

Almost everyone I've talked to about this has told me they also feel time exponentially accelerating, faster than can be explained by the concept outlined above.

Terrence McKenna came up with a theory based on his interactions with the I-Ching suggesting that events through history follow a pattern. The frequency of major world events follows a pattern that gets more and more frequent through time until it reaches December 21 2012 where it reaches zero point - time wave zero. I can't substantiate this claim with evidence, but there is certainly a LOT going on in the world right now, and not a lot of it very good.

Everywhere in nature we see certain mathematical patterns. The fibonacci sequence penetrates every part of nature. If you look at the way your own body builds iteslf, it uses these same mathematical patterns.

We all know about the fibonacci sequence, and how it represents itself in every aspect of nature:

Well, why not time too? It certainly feels like time has this same forumla built into it.

So now, as we journey deeper towards Zero Point, in a reality where our actions can be seen manifesting themselves and reiterating, there has never been a better reason to be loving and gentle and POSITIVE!

ASOC: PART 4 of 4

Altered states of consciousness PART 4 of 4

It doesn't take much logical analysis to realise that the way humans behave on this planet is going to destroy our existence unless we change soon. Whether through nuclear war, global warming, toxification and destruction of nature and our environment or something else, our future on this planet is threatened, and we need to go through a massive paradigm shift in the way we behave to change this, or we will eventually face our own destruction.

The last radical paradigm shift in the human species of proportions this epic occured - so far as we can see - approximately 40,000 years ago, when we changed our behaviour from animal-like higher-primates, into intelligent, creative, artisitic and spiritual people. The evidence discussed in "Supernatural", suggests that this paradigm shift took place when our ancestors discovered spirit teachers through altered states of consciousness (be that by meditation, rhythmic drumming, fasting, dance, or entheogenic plant use, etc).

If we want to continue living on this planet, we must evolve from the greedy, compulsive, destructive people we are, into a compassionate, loving, kind, gentle, nurturing and caring species, to act as the gardener-caretakers of this planet, and not the raper/pillager/destroyers that we currently are.

The last paradigm shift occurred when we met with the ancient teachers of mankind through altered states of consciousness, and now the next paradigm shift must occur - RAPIDLY. The question is - will we get there on our own? Or will it come about as it did before, with people rediscovering the ancient spirit-teachers of man? Or will it come through cataclysm?

Whatever the case, if we don't change the way we behave, our environment will.

ASOC: PART 3 of 4

Altered states of consciousness PART 3 of 4

As we see spirituality die away in the face of the "organised religion vs atheism" paradigm, we are able to witness the effects of this situation in our society. All forms of spirituality, including even the shells that organised religion leaves us, teach that there are consequences to our actions. When you do wrong, there is more coming to you than the possibility of jail time if you're caught by the police.

But in our ultra-materialistic society, we've forgotten this rule. We've forgotten that the spirit world exists around us, and we've forgotten that we are here to develop our souls, not to get rich at the expense of the world around us.

And so it continues - the world around us is slowly being eroded and destroyed by the materialist constructs we maintain. How much longer can it go on?

I'd just like to end here with a quote I read somewhere on the internet:
"We are all under the spell of capital. We are hypnotised by commercials and advertising jingles. We are told, by the powers that be, that capitalism is "natural", that we have arrived at some kind of Hegelian "End of History", in which capitalism has won and any attempts to imagine a different scenario, a different form of global exchange, is empty utopianism. Unfortunately, many of us have accepted this fabrication. And so it is, that the rainforest continues to be depleted, many people in Third World countries live in poverty (thanks to multinational corporations and the politics of debt played by such organizations as the World Bank); spiritually empty we, in the post-industrial capitalist countries, greedily seek to fill our spiritual emptiness with things, commodities. We consume more and more, yet still cannot fill the emptiness. We're like rats on a turnwheel.
Psychedelics MAY be PART of the antidote to all of this."

Is a spiritual re-awakening through altered states of consciousness the key to unlocking the door our global culture must pass through in order to stop it from destroying itself?

ASOC: PART 2 of 4

Altered states of consciousness PART 2 of 4

However, when religion gets organised, they move away from the experiences that inspired those very religions. Each organised religion tells us it the means for us to be spiritual and progress (or even save) our souls, but the fact is the spiritual essence of relgion is no longer there. Spirituality is meditated to us through books and religious figures such as priests and monks. The divine connection that we all crave has been reduced to, for the most part, blind faith.

If you go into a religious institution today (church, temple etc), you listen to stories being told. If you were to go in there and start talking with spirits and angels, you'd probably be dragged out and taken to the nearest mental institution.

This is, I believe, one of the main problems affecting our society at this moment. Spirituality has been reduced to dogmatic routine and studying of scripture. The divine, spiritual core of religion - direct contact with the spirit world - has been sucked out of it, leaving an empty shell of spirituality, where divine presence once stood.

Human beings have a huge need and desire for spiritual experience, and spiritual connection. From the dawn of modern man we've engaged in this practice, and we are able to see this through the cave paintings our ancestors left for us to ponder

The Shaman of Trois Freres cave in France.

But now in our society we have spirituality boiled down to a few major organised religions, and many people instinctively feel turned off by joining one. Atheism is growing at an incredible rate in our culture, and is helped by the careful indoctrination we receive in schools. I'd just like to quote from "The Lost Language of Plants":

Public schools are completely enveloped in the perspective that the universe is not alive. The entire curriculum, except for a rare literature course or unique teacher, contains this embedded communication. Every day for the twelve to twnty years of formal schooling children are taught that they are alone on a ball of rock hurtling round the sun and that the other residents of that ball of rock are "resources" to be used or managed.

The textbooks, their authors, and the teachers are all presented as authorities on the nature of reality, and the universe-as-machine epistemology is carefully inculcated in the children. Despite the fact that increasing numbers of scientists acknowledge that mechanisitic reductionism is either incorrect or has serious limitations, it continues to be taught. Schools are, in many respects, only employee-training centers, funded by tax dollars, for a technology-dependent society.

ASOC: PART 1 of 4

Altered states of consciousness: Are they the key?

Aside from partnerships and love, for many people spirituality makes up one of the other vital elements of what makes us human, and gives us form and understanding for why we're here.

One of the main elements "Supernatural" explores is the possibility that The Ancient Teachers of Mankind - spirit teachers encountered through ecstatic trance - were the catalyst that brought man from the animal-like creatures we were when first anatomically modern humans appeared 196,000 years ago, to the artistic, spiritual and cultured human beings we became approximately 40,000 years ago when the first cave paintings and advanced tools began to appear.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, we know for fact that all the major organised world religions were inspired by people experiencing altered states of consciousness.

Just a few examples of these are Moses and the Burning Bush, Abraham's contact with angels, St John's vision of the apocalypse, St Paul's road to Damascus revelation, let alone the shamanic figure that Christ represents - in Christianity alone. Of course Muhammad's visions and communications with Allah through Gabriel are the very foundations of Islam. Buddhism is based on the experiences of Buddha achieving Christ consciousness in an altered state of consciousness.

These are all echoes of the shamanic experience. Going into ecstatic trance to achieve direct contact with the spirit world, and even the source, is something shamans have been practicing for at least 40,000 years, and it is this very practice that has birthed and delivered religion and even our culture as we know it.

Looming threat

"So I've told people that, if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon."

George Bush is on the Warpath again. I wonder how long we've realistically got until World War III? 100 years? 50? 10? 5? 1?

Reminds me of an Einstein quote:
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Choices continued...

Well, here we are again. The Burmese people are still living under an oppressive regime, and their pro-democratic protests were crushed by the military. Darfur in Sudan is still the worst human rights disaster afflicting the planet this century. Literally as you read this innocent people are being murdered there.

What can we do about it? Protest? Wish? Pray? Fight? Do nothing?

Putting good energy out into the universe through wishes or prayer may make some subtle changes on an energetic level, but the fact is it doesn't stop the slaughter. We can wish all we like for Darfur, Burma, or even for saving the Amazon, but wishing simply does not stop life from being cut down.

So what to do? Do we absorb ourselves in the sadness of the endless problems? Should we all become charity workers and try and give aid to the problem areas? Really, what can we do?

We all want a better world, one of love and happiness. But how do we get it? Contribute our energies to some of the problems appearing in front of us? If you do that, then you have to ignore the problems not immediately infront of you. If you pray for Burma, then you forget about Darfur. If you pray for Darfur, you forget about the Amazon. Well, what the hell can you we do then?

I think the only way we can truly help the world become the world we want it to be is through spreading love in an effort of manifesting consciousness change.

Energies put out into the world spread like ripples. You can choose which energies you wish to spread.

The thing is, if we - the people who really want change - don't try to change the way humankind think, or try to make some changes somehow, then the world is going to continue as it always has.

If human consciousness does not change, it's going to go on like this until we're using nuclear weapons against each other. It's going to go on until we've destroyed all the old forests on the planet out of greed, leaving barren, unbreathable air. It's going to go on until we no longer have a planet we can live on.

The Mayans pointed out 2012 as the turning point for human kind. Maybe they were wrong, maybe they were right - it doesn't matter. The fact is that right now the world needs changing, and we are the people who need to do it.

Choices

Having a look through the various news stories headlining day after day, it's very easy to get the impression that the world we live in is a horrendous, dangerous, scary, evil, hateful and ugly place. And it is.

It really is a horrible place. In every corner of the world we see people acting out of terrible evil, inflicting suffering and pain on others and the world around them. Every day somewhere there is war, famine, murder, rape, robbery, and a supreme and incomprehensible suffering.

YET, at the same time, the world we live in is the most incredibly beautiful, loving, kind, compassionate, inspiring, nurturing, sublime and exotic platform for existence we can possibly imagine.

There are such incredible forces of love, compassion, peace and kindness that no matter how bad things get, and no matter how much evil and darkness there is in the world, love always shines through.

Energy spreads and attracts. When you see people act with love and compassion, it inspires you to do the same. Just as when you see people act with hatred, it is hard not to feel anger at them and do the same.

We live in a dichotomy - a world of two voices - a world of choices. We can take part in whichever vibration we choose. We can act with love and kindness as easily as we can act with cruetly and hate.

The world is right now in as dangerous a situation as it has ever been. The great forests are disappearing before our eyes, global warming is slowly revealing itself to be the unstoppable monster that we dreaded it to be, huge military powers are arming themselves and dragging us into what looks to become a third world war. Atrocities are becoming commonplace as we realise that we are living in a world partaking of a tremendous state of lovelessness.

We are in need of a consciousness change more than ever. My feeling is that unless we the people instigate this change, then change will be thrust upon us.
